Extra Large Tote Beach Bags: Over the past year, large tote bags have enjoyed an uptick in popularity (think L.L.Bean’s canvas tote and Bottega Veneta’s Maxi Jodie Bag), and the silhouette isn’t slowing down for the warm months ahead. At the spring 2023 shows, we spotted oversized tote bags at Bottega Veneta, Prada, Max Mara, and many more. Everything from raffia structured iterations to worn-in leather silhouettes suggested we put our micro beach bags to the side and pull out something more effortless and practical. And if you have your eyes set on an oversized style, you can wear it well into the fall and winter — large tote bags were spotted in fall 2023 shows, too.

Slouchy Beach Bags: As the fashion world embraces slouchier, 2000s-inspired silhouettes across handbag categories, you may also consider choosing a slouchy option over your usual stiff beach bag. In spring 2023 collections, Bottega Veneta, Altuzarra, Chloé, and Gabriela Heart made their case for the silhouette dressing it up with dresses and down with denim. Additionally, Max Mara and Ferragamo showcased the style, with larger silhouettes slung across the body, showing how practical and casual the style can be.

Sleek Beach Bucket Bags: The classic straw basket is synonymous with summer, but designers put forth newer interpretations with a city-sleek feel this season. While you will still be able to get your hands on traditional straw bucket bags, as seen at Jacquemus’ spring 2023 show, keep an eye out for bucket bags that combine luxury details with traditional summery materials. At brands like Chloé, “raffia, straw, and canvas bucket bags have been updated with leather embellishments such as caged straps, buckles or tassels,” Park says. Structural bucket shapes with leather-wrapped wicker and canvas were spotted at labels like Staud and Polène, too.

Crochet Beach Bags: Crochet beach bags pack a punch in style, as seen with Prada’s viral crochet raffia tote. However, this season we see more and more variety, from top handle carryalls to mini totes and beyond. At Isabel Marant’s spring 2023 show, the designer delivered on her boho brand with crochet shoulder bags that had fringe embellishments. At Chloé and JW Anderson, traditional crochet bags were reinterpreted with modern sensibilities like knot details and unique animal shapes. Lastly, at Jil Sander, classic breezy totes were given pops of color, fit for the beach and beyond.
