The Celine spring/summer 2026 show; your favorite influencer’s favorite influencer posting clips from their Ibiza getaway; top brands like Coach and Loewe coming out with their own, season-specific iterations like clockwork. We’re talking about the most high-profile straw bag sightings of the year, of course, which are bolder and quirkier than they’ve ever been.

The straw bag, a ’70s staple, took on an outsized significance after being adopted by Jane Birkin, who toted her trusty basket bag so often, taking it from protests to red carpets, that it became synonymous with the woman herself.
Since then, woven bags crafted out of straw and raffia have been returning to fashion insiders’ clutches each time the calendar turned to June, but this particular summer has already witnessed a shift.
The accessories are now more vibrant and saturated, or else are cropping up in unexpectedly gigantic proportions (one look at the latest Chanel Cruise collection confirms the fact). So too are designers making straw bags more adaptable for wear beyond the beach by updating them with leather accents, sculptural handles, gilded hardware, and other city-ready touches.
Recent Fashion Week street-style imagery paints a clearer picture, depicting the sartorially savvy with ruffled, leather-trimmed, logo-clad, netted, or dumpling-shaped woven purses in hand, not to mention wicker box bags wrapped in a myriad of life-affirming hues.

Straw bags become so ubiquitous once the weather warms due in no small part to their impressive compatibility with styles from breezy linen dresses and gladiator sandals to casual denim-and-white-tee equations paired with sneakers. That being said, if you ask us, they do their best work alongside your finest swimwear and pareos.
Referring to all woven bags as straw bags, though, is quite the generalization. Today’s trendiest ones are typically made from straw (which comes from the dry stalks of cereal grains) and raffia (which comes from the leaves of palm trees, making it a completely separate entity). Wicker, meanwhile, is another word that gets thrown around a lot in the fashion world, but it’s not a material at all — instead being a weaving technique that results in structured silhouettes. Wicker bags, for the most part, are composed of rattan, which is sourced from thick, woody vines and proves to be less pliable than its raffia and straw counterparts.
Riding the woven bag wave, dozens of high-end designers and affordable-luxury labels alike have been treating loyalists to their unique interpretations of the trend. Whether you’re on the market for a $30 stadium-approved shoulder bag with straw detailing from Target or are finally ready to shell out on a four-figure Prada crochet tote, we’re rounding up the best straw and raffia bags to take on your next Euro adventure.
Birkin would be proud.
A New Day Shoulder Bag With Straw Detail
$30
From Target’s in-house ready-to-wear label, A New Day, comes this clear shoulder bag that only nods to straw versus going all in on the fabric. We like that its TPU body fits the bag guidelines at most stadiums and concert venues, as well as the fact that its main compartment is large enough to store all your summertime must-haves — from a digital camera to a portable fan.
At just $30, this style is less of a want and more of a need: to be donned with festival favorites like vintage band tees and metallic cowboy boots.

Coach Tabby Shoulder Bag 26
$287.50 $575 50% off
Here at WWD Shop, we’ll never stop talking about Coach’s iconic Tabby, and this fringed straw rollout in particular demands your full attention. The slinger is one of the line’s most textural: blessing the Bella Hadid– and Emrata–embraced bestseller with boho-coded charm.
Everything you adore about the Tabby remains underneath the shag, like two detachable straps for shoulder or crossbody wear, an internal zip pocket, and gleaming hardware. Save the jewel tones for winter, temporarily replacing them with this fresher and more season-appropriate option.

DeMellier The Siena Crossbody
$495
DeMellier, which prides itself on luxury quality at mid-tier price points, has been experiencing massive virality as of late — popping up during Copenhagen Fashion Week and on the arms of A-listers like Meghan Markle. While the fashion house’s most-prized picks include The Midi New York, The New York, and The Hudson, we encourage you to take things in a less corpcore direction by saying “yes” to The Siena: a drapey, slouchy crossbody handwoven out of Madagascan raffia and finished with sumptuous black leather, requiring two specialists and 19 hours in total to make.
Boasting an en vogue hobo silhouette, The Siena is also enhanced with magnetic padlock closure, allowing it to straddle the line between the sophisticated and the relaxed. Not only has it been brought to life in an ethical and sustainable way, but the beaut also exudes true, hard-to-find craftsmanship at every turn.

Prada Logo Crochet Tote Bag
$2,050
Meet Prada’s crochet tote bag, in which softness joins with rectilinearity while the maison’s instantly recognizable triangle takes center stage — albeit in crochet form this time around. Able to flatten down to tidy proportions, it’s something that can quickly be packed inside a carry-on, later housing everything from your beach read to your SPF.
Unlike its predictably tan- and white-colored alternatives, this baby benefits from a refreshing green tint. Also: The bag conceals a major secret. It can’t be classified as a raffia piece, instead taking advantage of raffia-effect yarn. A master of illusion, this $2,000-plus status symbol is still worth every penny.

Lilly Pulitzer Leena Top Handle Bag
$268
Lilly Pulitzer’s Leena Top Handle Bag is by far the preppiest selection on this list, courtesy of a bamboo top handle (a design element favored by another brand: Gucci), classic turnlock closure, plus a prim-and-proper trapezoidal shape. We admire the pops of pink found on its leather overlays, soft, forgiving lining that won’t scratch your precious tech, and optional crossbody strap.
Metal feet at the bottom, too, work to protect the object from damage. Pair with a Lilly sheath dress to maximize its head-turning allure.

Chloé Summer Banana Ombre Raffia Tote Bag
$1,850
Dubbed “Summer Banana,” this Chloé tote just might turn out to be the priciest one you will ever own — but for good reason. Its perforated weave is swathed in a sunset-like gradient, with the fashion destination’s flowy, feminine lettering sitting on top. The Italian-made purchase also features leather-wrapped straps that won’t dig into your bare, sunburned shoulders, and its interior slip pocket can serve as a receptacle for a money clip or an AirPods case while you’re hopping from island to island.
You need not worry about charm add-ons here, either, since the bag comes with its own compilation of banana and logo plaque baubles.

Veronica Beard Small Beaded Raffia Slouch Top Handle Bag
$595
Petite and pampered by hand-strung glass beads, this bag took over 26 hours to manufacture and came straight from the hands of a women’s artisan collective operating out of India. Visually intricate through and through, the purse flaunts meticulous knotting on its leather handles and a color palette of warm browns. Haul it like a crossbody with the help of a thinner, longer strap or in the palm of your hand as you’re hailing a cab, Carrie Bradshaw–style.
Note that if your wardrobe leans more monochrome, Veronica Beard’s multicolored version of this bag, replete with blues and reds, is a wiser choice.

Clare V. Pot de Miel Bag With Bamboo Handle
$265
Los Angeles–based accessories brand Clare V. sits at the intersection of Parisian glamour and Cali cool, and this top-selling Pot de Miel Bag is proof of concept. Resembling the profile of Birkin’s go-to basket almost to a tee, founder Clare Vivier shares that it’s actually inspired by a honeypot — with a bamboo handle, handwoven body, and painstaking attention to detail that make the bag even sweeter.
Said handle can come off fully, letting the bag moonlight as an objet d’art in the home and collect your tchotchkes in style. Being unlined, it’s best suited for contents that won’t be harmed by the straw’s rougher texture. As for that Blush colorway? We’re not exaggerating when we say we’re obsessed, and dozens of reviewers share the sentiment.
“I purchased my first Blush Pot de Miel bag on a whim. I imagined I’d get a summer out of it at best. Many years later, I still carry that bag almost every day from April to October. It is astoundingly sturdy and holds far, far more than one would expect. I receive compliments on my Pot de Miel bags wherever I go. It borders on the ridiculous,” one such devotee reports.

Staud Cleo Fish Bag
$450
Sardine Girl Summer might’ve came and went, but fashion’s collective devotion to fish motifs remains… and cool-girl companies from Damson Madder to the pictured Staud are understanding the assignment. If you need more whimsy in your life, nothing could be a better investment than the Cleo: a wicker, canvas, and leather open-top creation that deserves to be seen and not hidden in the back of the closet.
It’s safe to say you won’t be fishing for compliments with this one, as strangers become absolutely hooked when catching sight of the bag at al fresco dinners, garden soirées, and every function in between.

Loewe x Paula’s Ibiza Shrimp-Embroidered Raffia Tote Bag
$1,600
Fusing the bohemian spirit of Paula’s Ibiza, a legendary Ibizan boutique from the 1970s, with Loewe’s top-tier technique, this tote is also an ode to the realm of the pescaterian — spotlighting a delicious crustacean via detailed embroidery layered over tightly woven raffia. So that no one mistakes the bag for another’s, Loewe’s name is embedded onto the product’s front.
No matter if you fling it over a beach chair in Sitges or a restaurant’s purse hanger somewhere in Barcelona’s El Born neighborhood, know that it will generate looks of longing left and right.

Emprier Straw Clutch
$25.98
Finally, a clutch that proves straw bags need not cost you an arm and a leg. Selling for under $30 right at Amazon, this rare find has over a hundred five-star reviews to its name, which rave about its versatility, surprising capaciousness, and expensive look without the accompanying price tag.
Delicate yet durable, the kisslock bag has a metal chain that can be easily tucked inside when not in use. Delivering within days, it’s also a godsend for any last-minute invite that might land on your lap, sparing you from dressing-related anxiety. Not a fan of the above Rose Red variation? Amazon offers four more shades, from a traditional beige to a pistachio green.

SimonMiller Shelly Bag
$275
Real-life seashells and a striped, silky scarf adorn this aptly named Shelly Bag from SimonMiller. The weave of its raffia reminds us of a crochet cap, and the catchall will do your seasonal getups just as much good. Ideally, it should be matched to a statement maxi dress (maybe in a green reflective of those handles, maybe not) and towering espadrilles to extend all that natural texture.
SimonMiller orders over $150 ship free — another excuse to let this bag change your life, or at least your aesthetic.
