As the debate rages on over the use of horse-drawn carriages in New York City, fashion brand Collina Strada is stepping into the conversation with a new T-shirt that calls for an end to the use of horses for transportation.
Released in partnership with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), the short-sleeve tee features a graphic with a red X over a horse-drawn carriage, along with the phrase, “Horses Aren’t Taxis.”

Collina Strada ‘Horses Aren’t Taxis’ T-Shirt
$120
Made in the USA, this unisex T-shirt is manufactured from 100-percent organic cotton and available in sizes XS to XL, with a contemporary, oversized fit. The T-shirt is selling quickly online, with only a few more units left in stock.
Price upon publish date of this article: $120
According to Collina Strada, proceeds from the sale of the T-shirt will be donated to The Coalition for Responsible Carriage Horse Retirement, which works to remove New York carriage horses from the streets and place them in “safe and loving homes” and animal sanctuaries.

Collina Strada is best known for its forward-thinking womenswear, but the brand has also been a leader in promoting sustainability and social activism on the fashion front. PETA, meanwhile, has been campaigning against horse carriages since 1980, arguing that the hot and uneven concrete of city streets can be hard on the animals’ legs and hooves, while the throng of cars and pedestrians can leave the horses easily spooked.
Just last month, an 18-year-old tourist was killed when he was thrown off a runaway horse, who may have been frightened by the crowds near Central Park. Just weeks earlier, another horse died after reportedly ingesting a poisonous plant in the park.
