The first chill in the air is a loud-and-clear signal that it’s time to make the switch — from shorts to full-length denim and from minidresses to knitwear, sure, but also, as Samsung will have you know, from your ubiquitous, predictable iPhone to a foldable design that has managed to outshine competitors with each and every spec.

Recently, Samsung debuted its “Switchers” campaign, starring Dr. Orna Guralnik (of “Couples Therapy”); “The Traitor’s” Ciara Miller and Dylan Efron; “Love Island’s” Carl Schmidt and Aniya Harvey; as well as former football champs Nick Foles and Clay Matthews.

The premise is simple (and relates to fashion in a major way, but more on that later): Switching tech, just like switching relationships, friendships, jobs, and routines, is an emotionally loaded experience. Samsung’s argument? You might feel attached, but familiarity does not equate to compatibility, and opening yourself up to newness could level up your life in unimaginable ways.
In context of the behemoth’s Galaxy Z series and S series — the ad spot’s other stars — fear of the unknown might revolve around showing up “green” in group chats with friends; not being able to seamlessly transfer photos between devices via AirDrop; and no longer moving fluidly between your phone and laptop while sending over files, answering texts, or even using said phone as a webcam for said laptop.

According to Samsung, 23 percent of Galaxy Z Fold8 buyers switched over from a competing smartphone brand. Waste no time in joining them.
But Apple loyalists who are ready for something bigger and better need not worry, as Samsung has effectively addressed the pain points of switching with features like Smart Switch (allowing users to bring existing data over from iOS devices); RCS messaging, which benefits from read receipts, emoji reactions, and other perks you never wanted to part with; plus Quick Share, a wireless file-sharing service that fosters smoother communication between iPhones and Android devices.
Venturing outside of your comfort zone (erm, comfort phone) clearly has its rewards.
“For many people, switching smartphones can feel like a big decision, but we’ve found it is more emotional than technical. The relationship we have with our phones is deeply personal — they hold our memories, connect us to the people we love, and are part of how we navigate our everyday lives,” Keena Grigsby, chief marketing officer and vice president of mobile experience at Samsung Electronics America, said in a press release. “It can be easy to stay with what you know — even if there is something better out there. This campaign shows just how simple switching is and invites consumers to discover all that the Galaxy Z series has to offer.”
Believe it or not, this ethos translates to the realm of the sartorial, too, which is where WWD comes in. We attended the 2026 US Open Women’s Final with Samsung, getting a proper introduction to its launched-this-August Galaxy Z Fold8 phone while witnessing how celebrities were interpreting the phrase “transitioning-weather dressing” at this event.

The weather was uncharacteristically balmy, but the tennis-match attendees still arrived in all manner of summer-meets-fall garb — proving that making the switch vis-à-vis your seasonal outfit choices usually happens gradually and then all at once, akin to being influenced to finally buy a Samsung phone.
Maria Sharapova rocked cropped cargo pants, fusing the cut of warm-weather bottoms with the fabric of cold-weather ones; Nicky Hilton demonstrated the power of the texturally rich and durable jacquard, in striped coordinates from Monse; Shonda Rhimes confirmed that a floral, belted dress is never a bad idea for early fall; Abigail Spencer gave us inspo on how to pair lingerie-inspired tops with sharp blazers; and Elizabeth Banks also cosigned blazers, putting hers in conversation with a chic, polka-dotted maxi skirt.

Jaimie Alexander took a page from how fans are dressing up for Harry Styles’ concerts: coming to the athletic function in an oversized suit and tie. Paris Hilton was all preppy-academia in her varsity-striped Gucci sweater vest and miniskirt, while Ashley Graham, who watched the proceedings from Ralph Lauren’s suite, donned a short-sleeve, bright-red cardi from the label with some animal-print accessories.

In the menswear department, Andrew Garfield flaunted a track jacket from Ellesse, validating that the style is, indeed, the season’s reigning outerwear pick. So too did Rami Malek capture our attention with his navy jacket, perfectly fitting jeans, leather belt, and white button-up.

It’s safe to say we gleaned a few overarching styling directives for fall 2026 from the stands of one of tennis’ buzziest matchups. A biggie: So as to make the transition more natural, incorporate layers slowly and intentionally, whether this means tying a cardigan around your shoulders as you continue wearing dresses on sunny afternoons or going with baggier overgarments to give the clothing underneath (be it a silky blouse or a lace-trimmed cami) room to breathe.
Integrating more texture into your ensembles is also key, as we’ve seen with Hilton’s knit matching set, Alexander’s glossy, ruched loafers, and Malek’s suede-swathed coat.

Waving goodbye to summery attire can be scary — considering it’s intimately correlated with memories of vacations, indulgent, sun-drenched moments, and adventures shared with loved ones — but, if Samsung’s “Switchers” campaign is any indication, what’s waiting on the other side will be well worth your time.
