Jennifer Lawrence was the epitome of city-girl cool when she stepped out in New York this past weekend with husband Cooke Maroney, wearing a bohemian-inspired ensemble that included a coral-hued T-shirt, a headscarf wrapped around her waist like a belt, and Heaven Mayhem‘s glossy Margaux Sunglasses. But our eyes couldn’t help but settle on another key aspect of her effortlessly tasteful look: the suede tote she was hauling around, which comes from the celebrity-magnet brand Liffner, a long-time favorite of editors and fashion insiders alike.

Lawrence’s Liffner tote of choice was the brand’s Tall Sprout Tote in black suede: a subtly slouchy, mid-sized number that’s the latest handbag to join Liffner’s Sprout collection. Currently 30 percent off, the $486 carryall was not only able to tie together Lawrence’s elevated yet breezy summertime outfit but also allowed her to nail the ongoing suede tote bag trend.

Since last fall, the suede bag trend has taken off immensely, and tastemaking celebrities are already behind it: from Anya Taylor-Joy, who matched an oversized suede tote with a brown leather trench earlier this year in the perfect display of texture mixing, to Bella Hadid, who went with a suede bag that layered in some ’70s-era fringe and stud embellishments this past May. The overall recent virality of suede tote bags like Madewell‘s The Essential Bucket Tote and Coach’s Brooklyn Shoulder Bag makes it clear that the appeal extends beyond Hollywood. The latter was deemed the second hottest product for 2024’s Q3 in the Lyst Index, meaning suede handbags have been making waves for a while now, and the trend shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon — with J.Law proving you can wear suede in the summertime, too.
