Just as flip-flops have staged a triumphant return for summer 2025, another nostalgic Y2K trend has followed suit: the anklet. From runways to celebrities and style influencers, the anklet trend has reemerged in new form with modern, elevated twists. Think freshwater pearl accents, delicate gold box chains, and grown-up takes on the vibrant beads that once ruled summer camp.

Along with taking over the summer grids of just about every fashion insider on Instagram, anklets have also earned the A-list stamp of approval this season. Earlier this summer, Gigi Hadid styled a tweed Marc Jacobs minidress and Havianas’ Yellow Pop Flip-Flops with two colorful beaded anklet bracelets for a nostalgic twist to her high-low ensemble. The end result had us convinced that maybe the footwear trends of the early aughts weren’t so bad after all, and more than ready to embrace the anklet comeback.

Gigi was hardly the first celebrity to co-sign the return of anklets (though everyone knows that once a Hadid wears something, it *really* takes a trend to new heights). Earlier this year, Kylie Jenner attended Chanel’s spring 2025 couture show wearing a mini skirt suit that she accessorized with a Chanel double-wrap chain anklet and pumps. The elevated styling of her look proved that today’s wave of anklets aren’t just reserved for the beach, instead they serve as a chic way to upgrade even your best heels. (Taking a beachier route, however, her older sister Kim hit the actual beach wearing stacks of diamond anklets.) Elsewhere, Hailey Bieber took a more minimal approach — opting for a simple, dainty gold chain ankle bracelet with barely-there sandals, proving sometimes, less is more.

During a time when fashion is gravitating towards towards playful, childlike fun — from the Labubu takeover to jelly sandals to bag and shoe charms — it’s no surprise that yet another throwback trend of our youth is back on the scene.
